Winery Demeter Zoltán: The Poet of the Tokaj vineyards
The pioneer of dry Furmint
Although Tokaj is famous for its aszú wines, Demeter Zoltán was one of the first winemakers to prove that dry Furmint can produce world-class, single-vineyard wines. His wines (such as estate blends and single-district bottlings) are tight, mineral-driven, and remarkably elegant. Alongside Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály also play an important role, always expressing the most refined character of each variety.
Sparkling wine and Aszú: two extremes
Sparkling wine:
Demeter Zoltán was among the first to produce serious, traditionally made sparkling wines in Tokaj. His sparkling wines—especially those based on Furmint—are favourites of Hungary’s high-end gastronomy scene.
Aszú:
For him, aszú production is a true celebration. He only makes it in outstanding vintages, but when he does, the result is remarkable concentration and balance—wines capable of ageing for decades.
The tasting experience
A visit to the Tokaj estate is not a traditional cellar tour. Here, wine is complemented by music and architecture, all playing an important role in the experience. During tastings, guests gain insight into the precision and humility with which Demeter Zoltán approaches both grapes and winemaking.
